The main application for high-purity tellurium is the production of cadmium telluride for use in photovoltaic systems. The technology metal is, thus, an essential raw material for the energy transition. Tellurium is also applied as an alloying additive in copper, lead, steel and aluminum alloys, increasing their corrosion resistance. Together with bismuth, it is used in thermocouples. Finally, tellurium is also needed for the vulcanization of rubber.
