The most important consumer of cadmium is the battery sector. As the technology metal has good neutron absorption properties, it is also used as a semi-finished product in nuclear reactors as a shielding material. Other relevant applications include the production of color pigments, alloys, anti-corrosion coatings and PVC stabilizers. A future market is the use of cadmium together with tellurium in photovoltaic systems.
