Dysprosium is an important component of permanent magnets (Nd-Fe-B magnets), used for wind power plants, electronic devices, or various small motors in the automotive sector. As part of the raw material requirements for the energy transition, the rare earth metal will continue to gain importance in the long term. Dysprosium is also used as a dopant in luminescent materials such as halogen lamps. Alloys with the rare earth metal, such as zinc, alloys and as an alloying addition to zirconium, are used for evaporation materials and sputtering targets. Its alloy with lead has applications as a shielding material in nuclear reactors.
