Fields of application
One of the essential applications of cerium lies in the production of cerium misch metal. This metal alloy, used for steel production, consists of various metals and rare earths such as neodymium, praseodymium, terbium, and yttrium. The industry also requires cerium in the form of cerium oxides to coat automotive exhaust catalysts. The metal is also used as a polishing agent for optical glass, as a UV absorber in windshields, for example, or coloring and decolorizing glass.
