Fields of application
Lanthanum metal is used in the foundry industry, where it is added to cast iron; it further serves as an alloying additive and a reducing agent. In oxide form, it is applied in optical and in chemically resistant glasses such as camera and telescope lenses. It is also used in the manufacture of pigments, paints and varnishes. Moreover, it is indispensable in automotive exhaust and petrochemical catalysts. It is used as an activator in the production of phosphors. Besides, it is needed to produce animal feeds and artificial fertilizers.
