- Driven by the expansion of data centres, demand for ruthenium could be 18 times higher by 2040 than the total production of this raw material in 2018.1
- The growing demand for ruthenium in data storage could exceed supply from 2027. As a by-product of other platinum metals, mining can hardly be scaled up. From 2029, there is a supply shortfall of around 3 tonnes - just under 10 % of the annual production volume.2
