Soldering tin for the assembly of electronic components is one of the metal's main applications. Tin cans are made from tinned steel as the tin coating protects them from corrosion. Tin is also frequently used in alloys, for example in combination with copper to produce bronze. It also plays an important role in low-melting alloys, including indium tin oxide (ITO), which gives surfaces such as touchscreens electrical conductivity. The chemical industry uses tin to produce stabilisers for PVC materials, among other things.
