The most important market is special glasses; rubidium carbonate can be used to reduce electrical conductivity in order to improve the stability and durability of fibre optic networks in telecommunications. Other applications include motion sensors, night vision devices and solar cells. Rubidium atoms also play an important role in research into quantum computers. This future technology harbours a potentially high consumption of the technology metal.
