Today, cobalt is mainly used as a cathode material for the production of battery storage systems. These include lithium-ion batteries, such as those found in electric cars. Due to its chemical properties, cobalt is also an important alloy metal for corrosion- and heat-resistant hard metals in turbines and engines, in chemical plants and for diamond tools. Cobalt is in combination with Samarium or with aluminium and nickel also a component of magnetic alloys.
