Amorphous boron is used as a raw material for numerous chemical products. It is used in solid fuels and igniters and is added to welding and soldering pastes. It is also used by the automotive industry in the igniters and gas generators of airbags. Boron is also used as an alloy component, for example in neodymium-iron-boron magnets, such as those used in wind turbines or electric motors. Due to its high hardness, boron is also used in high-performance ceramics and materials in mechanical engineering. In nano form, it is a component in the production of superconductors for the high-temperature range. Boron compounds are also used as bleaching agents.
