Metallic titanium is white-metallic glossy. It has a low density, is flexible, corrosion- and temperature-resistant. It belongs to the ten most common elements of the earth’s crust but only occurs as a chemical compound of minerals, such as rutile, titanite or ferrous ores.

Titanium is especially used to refine steel (alloys with titanium are light and extremely resistant). Titanium alloys are applied in the aircraft construction and in space travel as well as in medicine as bone replacements. Large amounts of titanium dioxide are processed in paints, varnishes and synthetics as well as in sunscreens as an UV blocker. It is used as titanium hydride for airbag ignitors in the pyrotechnics industry.
