Titanium is an important material in the aerospace industry. It is also sold in the chemical industry, the defence industry and the automotive sector, and is in demand for shipbuilding, in steam turbines and for seawater desalination. It improves the magnetic properties of permanent magnets based on alnico alloys (aluminium, nickel, cobalt, iron and copper) and acts as a steel refiner in the form of ferrotitanium. Due to its good biocompatibility, titanium is ideal for medical implants. Other areas of application include the production of metal foams and pyrotechnic mixtures for detonators in airbags and in mining.
