Tin is a grey, silvery shining metal that is extracted from the ore cassiterite. It is coated with an oxide layer in air making it extremely resistant. Tin can easily be processed due to its high smoothness and elasticity.
Tin is diversely used as an alloy component, e.g in the manufacture of bronze. It acts as a corrosion protection in the coating of tinplate. Tin is indispensable in the production of tin solder. Moreover, tin is of particular importance as a component of low melting alloys as well as in compounds like tin-oxide-indium-oxide that are applied as electrical conductors in indicators, such as LC displays.
