Tantalum is a platinum grey, corrosion resistant metal with a melting point of 2,996°C. At high temperatures it is also highly ductile, very hard and heat as well as electrically conductive. In chemical terms, tantalum is related to niobium.
Tantalum is very hard in alloys and is used in the manufacture of microelectronic capacitors as well as superalloys. Tantalum is also applied in sputter targets for coating procedures as well as in surgical instruments, electronic elements and fast turning steels.
