Niobium is a grey metal with a high melting point (2,477°C). As a natural ore, niobium occurs together with tantalum. Compared to many chemicals, niobium is featuring a good resistance at a relatively low weight.
Due to its unique combination of chemical and physical characteristics, niobium has various demanding applications – e.g. in superconductive cables and magnets for rockets and satellites. Niobium is applied in the automotive sector and reduces the fuel consumptions because of its low weight. Due to its good biocompatibility, niobium is also used as a material for implants.
